Today while I was working out I was trying to dig deep to find my motivation. I needed a fire lit under my ass like no other, and I just couldn’t find it. Does that ever happen to you? Do you ever find yourself being a prime example that “getting to the gym is the hardest part” is a lie? That sometimes you get there, color coordinated and all, as just don’t.want.to.work??? Well. As I’m getting old I’m noticing that more often than not. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE the way I feel after I tackle a tough workout. I love that feeling of “I did it” and “I didn’t quit” that comes from a good sweat session. But getting it done? Or rather getting started? On some days I don’t want to work out i find motivation in places I would never expec to. It’s not in needing to rid myself of the extra 5 lbs I’m carrying around. It’s not knowing I have to do something to offset this love affair I have with sweets. It’s not the aesthetic value. It’s the 83 year old woman in the gym walking at a 2.0 with her sweatband on without a care in the world. She may not be moving at record speed, but the fact that she’s MOVING is everything. It’s the 70+year old man who opts to walk around the gym over and over rather than walk outside or on a treadmill. Although his methods are unconventional, they work. And he is consistent. So that’s when I get my ass in gear and get it done. In 30 years I could be that 70+year old. And someone in the gym may look at me and realizethat they, too, can do it.
